During my childhood days, I used to have an intense desire to grow up as an adult as soon as possible. I used to observe elders keenly and imitate them whenever I had chance.
One day, that desire took me to a local library (Most adults go there in the morning to read news papers). That was a small library with lots of news papers , magazines and few reference books like Dictionaries , etc., Most books stacked up there made no sense to me except one book on quotations.
Quotes book has short sentences and easy to read if not to fully comprehend. While the book had quotations by famous personalities like Shakespeare, Socrates , etc.,. most quotes had “anonymous” against them. I did not know the meaning of Anonymous and I thought ‘Anonymous’ is also a famous personality like others. I always admired his knowledge because he wrote the maximum number of quotes in the book!.
I grew up with the belief that ‘Anonymous’ is the most intelligent person until one day I saw the actual meaning in the dictionary. I then realised that the book publisher did not know the actual owner of the quote. Because it could not be attributed to anyone it has been left out as Anonymous.
That was childish. But that’s also the most frequent phenomena with most adults.
We interpret many messages everyday without fully understanding the underlying meaning or the intent. We do this despite knowing the dictionary meaning of all words used in the conversation. How immature!
I realised that I am growing old but I have many messages to correctly comprehend and understand the context and intent. Most of the messages are from the people who care about me (my boss, my seniors, clients , colleagues , friends , family members and the list goes on)
I have understood that I need to create a relationship dictionary and interpret the messages accordingly.
