Moving house can be really stressful, so much to do and often in a relatively short space of time. Making lists and being organised when it comes to packing can be really helpful, but it can often be overwhelming to realise just how much there really is to do. This is especially the case if you work full time, are packing on your own or if you have small children to look after whilst you are trying to pack.
Help with Childcare
There is never a wrong time to ask for help when you are moving, especially if you have small children. Perhaps you have a friend or family member who could help entertain your children in the run up to the move, giving you some much needed time to pack without a little helper who just wants to undo all your hard work. Whether this is in your own house or somewhere else the time could prove invaluable, it will certainly be a lot less stressful.
Definitely see if you can get some childcare help for the day of your big move. Whilst moving can be stressful for adults it is even more so for children seeing all the boxes leave the house, furniture dismantled and rooms emptied can confuse children Send them out on an “adventure” and when they you will hopefully have been able to reassemble their furniture and unpack their things in the new home to give them a sense of familiarity.
Help with Packing
Many removal services offer a packing service, a team of people who will pack everything up for you carefully: box it, label it and then sort it out on to the van. If you find that you are struggling to pack, perhaps you just can’t work out how to start and the whole process is becoming stressful then it might be time to consider contacting your removal company and seeing just how much more it would actually cost to have them pack for you. The price might be a lot less than you think.
Hiring a van
If you are not using a removal company to move but are planning on going down the hire a van and move it all yourself route, then it is never too early to ask for help. Rope friends and family in early give them plenty of notice of your moving date. You might not think you have that much stuff, but loading and unloading a van multiple times in one day, or over the course of several days will be hard work. You will certainly need plenty of help with those larger items of furniture, not only are they heavy it can be tricky to manoeuvre them as well.
In short when you move house it is always okay to ask for help, whether you are at the beginning of you move or close to moving day if you are finding it all too much ask for help, whether it is from friends and family or your removal company. Everyone will agree moving house is hugely stressful, so don’t be afraid to ask.
