There are times when we come across trials and tribulations that can deeply wound our spirit. In order to heal, our spirit must heal. The only way to do that is through spiritual means. Posted below is an article that I thought was very interesting.
God's got your back
All my life I've beaten people's expectations of me. I wasn't an academic star like my brother, Larry, or considered a good girl at home, like my sister, Lil. Our mother found me difficult, and her harshness toward me hurt my heart. When I was 12, "She's not a bad girl…," sweetly crooned by Smokey Robinson, became my anthem and what I wanted my family to know about me.
Who doesn't have a story of childhood drama? The effects of early rejection or loss, like the effects of physical and sexual abuse, don't pack up and leave easily, but encourage fear and insecurity to find a home in us. Without our awareness, these powerful emotions make us pull back from living fully. We may procrastinate, be crippled by shyness, never take risks to build on our dreams. But trauma from our past doesn't have to drive our future, and we don't have to be free of all our aching memories, all our fears and inner conflicts to be at peace and keep moving forward.

Parents aren't always wise or right.
| Gaining insight into what holds us back is the first step. Once I unlocked my deep emotions about my mother, I realized I had taken her judgments too personally—as children do. Babs's issues had nothing to do with me. And as my own daughter, Shana, knows, parents aren't always wise or right. I came to see that Mommy had hurt me because she was hurting, and I learned that people limited by their own pain can only love others in a limited way.
But like pebbles in a bag, we all polish one another. Not feeling the love I hungered for as a youngster has made me compassionate toward others. It also threw me onto my own resources, forced me to grow up quickly and, much to my family's surprise, to take responsibility for myself. Like everyone on earth, I have insecurities, but I won't let them rule me.
Our fears and insecurities do their work. They show us the fences we must climb, the doors we must push open. Insecurity drove me to college more than 20 years after high school and when I was already heading up the magazine. Life served me the lesson the way I would heed it, and I made one of the best decisions of my life.

Just make each step one toward goodness, toward God.
| Name your worst fears. Losing your income, home, health, your lover, your looks—in an instant any of these can happen and, over time, some surely will. A few have already happened to me, and I'm still standing strong, enjoying life more than ever before. In the course of our lifetime, everything will fall away from us, but nothing is truly lost. Look deeply, and you'll see how everything works for good, that God's got your back and is always moving you toward new possibilities—deeper connections, more meaningful work, greater vitality and excitement—always something new and better. Just make each step one toward goodness, toward God.
Trusting God makes us powerful, positive and loving despite our upheavals. When we dedicate ourselves to the power responsible for our presence, we become emboldened, more sincere and more calculating risk takers. We see that God even has our enemies under control.
Living for God connects you to the best of who you are, so you come to life each day with unshakable faith and a gentle spirit, able to enjoy this exquisite journey, knowing your purpose, knowing that God's got your back.
