Abraj Al Bait, Mecca - Saudi Arabia

Standing at 120 storeys tall, the Abraj Al Bait is the most expensive skyscraper on the world, costing a whopping $15 billion. Situated in the holy Mecca of Saudi Arabia near the largest and holiest mosque, the Masjid al-Haram, the Abraj Al Bait is a hotel that spans 1.5 million square metres and can accommodate 100,000 people. The main clientele of the hotel is usually pilgrims that come to the area to conduct Hajj. The hotel also features a view into the courtyard of the Masjid al-Haram, it was designed by the Dar Al-Handasah architectural group and opened in 2012.

Marina Bay Sands, Marina Bay – Singapore

The second most expensive building in the world, but at $5.5 billion, it is practically a third of the cost of the Abraj Al Bait, Marina Bay Sands is an integrated resort covering an area of more than 15 hectares. The building contains restaurants, a hotel, exhibition centres and entertainment venues and is the most popular tourist resort in all of Singapore. Marina Bay Sands is a combination of three buildings, all 55 storeys high, and capped off by the Sands sky park. The park contains the longest elevated swimming pool in the world at 150 metres.

Resorts World Sentosa – Singapore

Also located in Singapore, Resorts World Sentosa cost a fraction less than Marina Sands at $4.9 billion, and is the third most expensive casino ever built. Famed British architect John Elliott was the man tasked with designing this impressive structure and it was officially opened in 2005. With 302 rooms, 92 suites and parking for 2,500 vehicles, the Emirates covers more than 850,000 square meters. There is also a helipad and a marina, and the top floor of the hotel is always reserved for the Royal families of the United Arab Emirates. Guests can also enjoy a private beach that spreads across 1.3 kilometres, swimming pools, a luxury spa, tennis and cricket courts.
