Boiler Power Supply
Before you call out an engineer, it is best to cover the bases and check that your central heating is on. This may seem obvious to state, but so many people begin to panic about their heating when really all that may have happened is that someone turned the heating off by accident (particularly if the thermostat can be reached by children). Also, check that your fuse or main circuit breaker board hasn’t tripped and simply needs resetting.
Reset
Many boilers now have safety devices built into them, so if these are tripped then a simple reset may be all that is needed to get your heating up and running again. The reset button can normally be located at the front of the boiler and sometimes all you need to do is reset the dial to zero and then turn it back on. System Pressure
The system pressure within boilers can sometimes run low, causing the boiler to stop working and this is especially common with combi gas boilers. There is a pressure gauge or dial which normally has between one and four bars showing- check that your system pressure bar is at one when the system is cold. If the bar gets to be lower than one, then most sealed systems won’t function. Gas Supply
Gas supply can cause a great deal of problems when it comes to central heating or boiler breakdowns, especially if you have a payment metre with a card. If you run out of credit then the gas will be switched off. Try topping up your credit and re-inserting the card or chip. Also, press the gas metre and reset the button in order to re-establish the gas supply to your boiler.
