Both sales and project management are important for business success.

Both sales and project management are important for business success. There are a number of courses available to help you and your business grow, such as the Lean Six Sigma Project Management Certification. Here you can learn how to improve your business processes based on sales and project management to improve quality and minimise errors.

What is Sales & Project Management?
Sales management is the process which monitors and measures each employee’s capability to support a sale or make an actual sale themselves. It involves setting goals and providing sale support training, enabling each member of staff to develop their skills whereas project management is the process of initiating, planning and excusing a project to meet the objectives of it.

The Relationship between Sales & Project Management

So now you know the difference between sales and project management, it’s time to find out the relationship between them.

Without realising it, project manager plays a big role in the sales process. Not only do project and sales managers need a good understanding of the business, they need to understand where it’s heading. Being able to identify this will develop the sales process.

The project manager will have a large understanding of product strategy, customer economics and production costs. Using this information, the sales team can build the development of proposals against the facts. Not only does this warrant accuracy, it also ensures that all projects remain in line with the businesses goals and objectives.

The sales manager will help ensure that new products added to the market are aligned to the development of the business by considering its strategy and vision. Based on previous successes, the project manager can identify what aspect of a project worked well, and how it can be implemented. Similarly, sales management can contribute towards ensuring all promotions are also in line with the business. Creating deliverable schedules helps to ensure both objectives are met. The deliverable schedule may include information regarding potential time restraints and what resources are required for the project to step forward.

Both fields are required to work together and exchange knowledge. For example, since they will be working towards achieving the short and long term goals, identifying the main objective will be easy compared to developing a sales strategy. Once the sales strategy has been agreed by the sales management team, the strategy can be broken down. The tasks can then be assigned as required to keep everything running smoothly. Both are just as responsible to promote the brand.

Project management in sales is a complicated affair. Hitting revenue targets is just as important as efficient project management. Building a success project management sales plan takes time and requires thought before rushing into the development of a project that hasn’t been carefully considered.
