Comparison & Contrast of two very different Character Archetypes

This introspective into two opposing character archetypes was inspired by the fictitious hero, Stefano Ferraro, from my latest read ‘Shadow Rider’ by Christine Feehan. But not just him, also the larger issue of this troubling trend that I see a lot of books drifting towards…in particular, paranormal romance, but its also prevalent in other popular romantic subgenres (Cozy mysteries, contemporary, & historical romance etc.) What trend is this you might ask? The replacement of the True Alpha Male with the less lovable Control Freak Male Dictator.

I’m not sure why so many romance novels are touting out these ultra-controlling hero figures, but I think it needs to be said that this type of male is not a fantasy man. This dude is a nightmare on Elm street! Control-freak men are NOT romantic, they’re not endearing…they’re creepy! And it’s a dangerous fantasy for our daughters to aspire to. So please quit romanticizing them! There is a world of difference between an true alpha male and a controlling male dictator. If you can’t distinguish, let me count the ways...
