Our newest guinea pig rescue.

Hello Everyone,

So far, Crash and Marley are still acclimating. They are both fairly timid, but Crash is now regularly taking veggies from our hand.

Meanwhile, a new kid on the block has arrived. Princess Ladybug is a spry little sprite and hard to film as evidenced by the picture above.

When we first learned of her, her name was Ladybug, but then we learned that it was Princess from the previous owner, and so we decided on both.

We think she is only about five months old, and believe it or not, she might be pregnant. One of the reasons we think the previous owner wanted to get rid of her.

She was their five-year-old's pet and they thought that she's about a year and a half, but she is too small. Either the previous owner was just flat out lying, or they were just oblivious to obvious truths.

They said that they weren't sure, but that she might have spent time with one of their males. It's likely the child wanted them to play together not knowing that they would immediately play 'house'.

Most adults don't even know that guinea pigs can get pregnant very early on, which I believe is two to three months. Yeah, babies making babies, and fornication for them can be as quick as a handshake.

So far, Ladybug has been friendly, but very timid. We had her in her own cage at first and she was not really coming out of her house. We then introduced her to Dotty who can be a bit bossy at times, but is our most cordial piggie.

Ladybug immediately came out of her shell, and as Dotty began to get annoyed with her energy, we brought in Zella which altered the dynamic and calmed things down.

We later introduced Herman. He is the male in the four pig herd with Zella, Dotty, and Waffle. We are considering adding her to that herd, but as he was trying to assert his dominance, she was trying to hump him too. It was like watching a well-matched thumb war....[[|:-D

We put Herman and Dotty back and things seemed to be copacetic until we fed them dinner and Zella was being nippy with the food. This is not I'll-never-get-along-with-you behavior, but we want her to have a nice transition.

It was then that we decided to try her out with Ginny and Murphy. Murphy is healing from an ear infection and Ginny has been his support piggie. So far, they are doing quite well. I can't wait to see her fully come out of her shell. She strikes me as a piggie that might turn out like Candy, only friendly with other piggies.

Candy just lets us pet her, pick her up, hold her indefinitely, and mostly tolerates everything we do to her. She just can't seem to get along with others. As much as she seems to want to be with them, she's either not saying the right things, or she's misinterpreting what's being said to her.

It's hard to see in that photo, but Ladybug has a brown nose and brown feet. She is a Chocolate Himalayan with a coronet on her head. The previous owner says that her hair wasn't cut, but it's either that, or she was grooming herself which is a sign of stress and/or lack of food.

From what we were told, she was only being fed some cheap grains that have the colored bits in them which is not a good choice. They're not even for young ones. Something we need to get soon.
