Despite the shell, Maxwell is not a nut.

Mr. Maxwell, the Incognito Tuxedo, is really starting to come out of his shell. I think what helped was the cat tower I snagged that was in our apartment lobby. Stuff often gets left there to be had for free. It’s in really good condition. There was some minor scratching on one of the twine wraps on the posts. It has a fuzzy lining like a stuffed animal and he immediately claimed it.

Both of his previous owners had one and so I think it’s like a security blanket for him. The picture above is from a few days ago when he laid in my lap for the first time. He laid there for nearly two hours, and yes, my ass was numb.

We’ve also discovered that he likes to watch TV. We’ve been catching up on Leon the Lobster, and at one point, he started watching with dilated eyes and finished the episode with us. If you’re not familiar, Leon the Lobster is a ‘rescued’ lobster from a grocery store. I use quotes there because it started as a curiosity for the owner, but the man knows a lot about aquatic life and how to care for them and Leon has lived with him for over two years.

On the writing front, I was approached by someone from webnovel.com. It was someone on Wattpad that liked and commented on one of my books that is just custom cards I’ve designed for Magic: The Gathering. I was confused… no, wait… befuddled would be a better word to describe my reaction.

I mean, there’s a loose concept of a story to give the cards flavor, but other than that, it’s just text on cards with images ripped from the internet — with credit given when possible — and some of them are from real Magic cards. I did all these before AI was around to make images that I struggled to find.

It really came off as a sales pitch, but apparently, it’s free to publish your works on there, or so I’ve been told, and that’s from one of the editors that emailed me later. I’m guessing there’s other services that will cost you, or maybe they’re just trying to get more authors.

I was fooled by Medium’s pitch, and so I don’t want to be fooled by this one. I would love to try publishing one of my books there, but I really want to know more about this site before I commit.

They do have an ongoing writing contest that is free to enter, minus a membership I’m sure, and the top prize is $10,000. It has motivated me to want write, The Curio of Curiosity, which is an idea I had for a short story, but now it will be a novella. They allow books as short as 12,000 words, and I knew this story would be pretty long anyways.
