Two instances in my daughter's wonder years
that I would like to preserve.

PLEASE LOOK !

Much have been said about the wonders of telecommunications . Add to that the simple logic of children, and things taken for granted by this generation suddenly caught me off guard, when my then three year old daughter called me in the office and asked me to PLEASE LOOK at the crayons she was holding --- real close -- to the telephone because she wanted me to help choose what color was best for the picture she was creating!

I have to choke back my laughter and patiently explained that yes, she could hear me clearly, but I could not see using the telephone because telephones are only for hearing and talking --- not for seeing.

QUICK WIT

When school opened in June 1998,my then seven year old daughter, Marianne Therese, found out that aside from the usual 48 leaves and 30 leaves notebooks she is familiar with in kindergarten, grade-I students like her have to bring thick 100 leaves notebooks to class .

The evening after she insisted that she bring ALL notebooks to school , she nonchalantly told me this : “ Ma , you didn’t tell me which notebooks have 100 leaves. My teacher required us to pass our 100 leaves notebook today. It’s a good thing I could count FAST ! I counted the pages to make sure I submitted the correct one ”.
