One Extraordinary Day
December 6, 2001 Thursday

What transpired on this particular day is documented as it happened .
It is never meant to be forced upon the reader in any way .

Rather, it is written out of love and meant to be presented as a gift
for remembering Ty Sian
for his widow Chiu Sian ( Teacher Zhiang)
for those who loved TySian
AND for those who vowed to keep the fire he kindled
~ to teach the children well ~ forever burning.

So , with an open mind , kindly read this offering.

***
Typhoon Quedan have finally left Cebu.
It must have been the cold weather that caused me
to go to the bathroom at 2:30 AM of December 6th , 2001.

Since it was still early, I went back to sleep and dreamt
that I am still a high school student in ICCHS which was better known as Huasiong.

In my dream, the youngsters that stayed in the school dormitory
were out in the beach communing with nature.
Ty Sian was the one in charge .
He looked healthy, happy and all smiles.
He was the usual Ty Sian whose mere presence
IS assurance enough that everything is fine.

In my dream, Ty Sian was alive and well.
There was no cognitive knowledge
that he no longer walked with the living.
I felt good seeing him so happy with us, his beloved students.

Then in one fluid instance I awoke and saw
that it was already 4:45AM of December 6th 2001.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY , TYSIAN”
were the distinct words that was in my mind.

I knew TySian ‘s birthday was early December,
I just can’t recall the exact date.

I went to my altar and lighted the blessed candle.
I prayed the Apostle’s Creed.
I know I am the one silently praying ,
yet I clearly sensed TySian’s presence praying the words with me.
There was no fear nor goose bumps , just a serene feeling.

After the Apostle’s Creed, I proceeded to pray
The Our Father, The Hail Mary and The Glory Be three times each.
All these time , feeling TySian praying word for word with me.

After praying , in front of the lighted candle on top of my altar,
I spontaneously sang in my mind :
“Happy Birthday Ty Sian,
Happy Birthday Ty Sian,
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday,
Happy Birthday TySian.”

I then blew out the blessed candle
wondering when was Ty Sian’s exact birth date.

So I textd three special people
a variation of this same thought:
“ Good AM! Woke up 4:45AM from dream of TySian.
He is alive, peaceful & smile.
~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY TYSIAN ~
these are the words in my mind when I woke.
When is his birthday?”

The first reply was from a very dear Huasiong Teacher
12/06/01 06:01:48 AM
“ Wow ! Leleng, today is Ty Sian’s birthday!
But we went to the Memorial Park last Sunday for this.
Happy to hear this . “

Then from the same dear person :
12/06/01 06:36:19 AM
“ ChiuSian Happy to hear your news.
What apt news for TySian birthday.”

With tears blurring my vision I sent the successive reply:
“ You know, this is Ty Sian’s way of saying
he is fine and still looking after his loved ones !”

“Now , I hear Ty Sian say this :
~ Ki dit, gua eng wan kiaw din choy che e!
Kao yok gi na choy tyong yaw.~”

Translating TySian’s Amoy words that I heard in my heart:
~ Remember, I will always be together with all of you.
Teaching the children is the most important thing.~

By 12/06/01 06:49:04 AM
My bosom friend from Dadiangas replied:
“Good AM! Is it today Leng ? Yeah, I’ll pray
for the eternal repose of his soul.”

Then by 12/06/01 7:22:33 AM
From the third special person came this response:
“Yes, you are right, I just asked Chiu Sian.”

Now , allow me to fondly refer to this third special person
as Huasiong’s daughter in law. You see,
she is the supportive spouse of an alumni of Huasiong .
I called her up to elaborate more about my dream and TySian.
I ended up jotting down what she textd to ChiuSian two days ago.

This was her response when Chiu Sian thanked her last Decembe 4th
for helping in preparing a souvenir publication for Ty Sian’s cause.

“ It’s my great love and respect for the educational institution
and the legacy TySian & you, Chiu Sian instilled in my husband
carried on to me and my children which we truly value
and cherish till the generation to come.
Tysian may be gone but memories of this great man
will forever live in our hearts.
More power to you and ICCHS”

Furthermore, this gentle daughter in law of ICCHS shared that
during one of her visit in Huasiong with her husband,
Ty Sian was very concerned when he updated her about a student from Cebu.
The young man has been under his care for five years and yet there was no clear change for the better . Guess what happened after Ty Sian passed away early February this year ? The young man turned a new leaf! He is now the one responsible to help run their family business. He attributed his life changing improvement to the memory of Ty Sian’s constant nurturing .

Today, Thursday , December 6th , 2001 is a very extraordinary day indeed!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BELOVED TYSIAN!
