West Carrollton resident Jeff Ross, recently had his first book entitled The Chosen published through Publish America.
Ross who has worked for a government contracting company since 1985 does writing as a part-time hobby. “I always wanted to write a book; I just finally got around to it,” he said.
The Chosen, a short-easy read, is set in the year 2017 in a suburb of western Cincinnati. A successful programmer finds himself in a society of computer hackers who are wreaking havoc worldwide. The story begins with his plane being jolted and thrown off course by an unknown ground computer. Then, a few cyber criminals posing as utility workers kidnap a wealthy banker’s only son. The crooks force the bank President to open the bank’s computer system, allowing them to wire money to hidden accounts. All the while, a disastrous computer virus, meant to serve as a decoy, spreads out of control. The book is full of local attractions that any Miami Valley reader would recognize, as well as countless references to technology and current issues any reader would enjoy.
“I chose to focus on computer viruses and some possible results when computer and technology go too far. There are limits to technology and systems. If we keep pushing the limits, then who knows what could happen,” explained Ross.
Ross, who teaches some evening computer classes through West Carrollton City, used some of the experiences he had seen in his classes to fuel ideas for the book.
The Chosen was published through the Publish America website that offers the opportunity to have books published to anyone who fits their criteria and subject matter. Writers can send their stories to the sight as a attachment, then Publish America looks over the material and within a couple of weeks lets the writer know if the book will be published or not said Ross. Ross hopes to continue his publishing success with his second book The Burglar which is already finished. “I hope to send it off very soon to see if Publish America will publish this one as well,” said Ross.
