In the world of mass terrorism, natural disasters and dirty politics, media has taken the bait and ran with it, too often one-sided. As citizens from all over the world, we get the scaled down version or the hyped up one, whatever is most popular at the time.
It seems in the last while, since CNN, MSNBC and FOX’s twenty-four hour news channel has filtrated throughout homes and all around the world, media has taken front-center on everything. Forget about being objective in reporting, media takes a one-sided slant and throws any and everything else away. What has happened?
Why has the media turned this way? If you ask me, I think because the people thrive on it. They thrive on attacking the underdog, making personal problems their enjoyment for the week. I also think because journalists and the MSM have turned into cowards. They're afraid of telling it the way it is, afraid to have a backbone.
I can understand news has to be compelling, as I was a newspaper reporter myself, however; when did it become, in your face politics? Media is supposed to tell the news, stories of other people’s lives. When do they have the right to tackle one side and never let the world see the other?
Take the war in Iraq for example. The media has falsely led the world into believing no good has come from the United States and British soldiers in Iraq. Believe me, I hate war just as much as the next guy, but please, give us something positive.
Instead of focusing on the wonderful things that have happened, such as reconstructing of schools, reformation of government, liberation from a murderous dictator and so on; the media has chosen to concentrate on how many soldiers have died, protestors, terrorists and the like.
It seems the only thing the world cares about is death and destruction, instead of hope and healing at least that is what the media wants you to believe.
The question now is, how can we determine what’s truth or bias? How do we know what the media isn’t telling us? Tough questions our news reporters need to answer. People need to take a stand and be heard. They need to tell is like it is and get out of the way so people can make their own judgments. I was taught, in the world of journalism, that you give people the stories and then let them find the moral.
If enough people complain to the very media who are subjectively spreading the news, maybe they will step back and give the world credit for coming to their own conclusions. If not, we may never get the full truth of what is really going on behind closed doors.
