I found your interview with James Grady fascinating. Unfortunately, I don't have time today because I planned to watch the hour-long funeral of my uncle who died recently one month short of 102 was a career Army Air Corps officer from 1941-1963 who reached the rank of Major.
I didn't read the book, but the movie is one of my all-time favorites for its suspense. This Train sounds like it might be reminiscent of North by Northwest. Maybe not. Incidentally, the three years I was in California in my mid-20s, I connected with my dad's second cousin Jean in her 60s. Her twin sister, Janet, divorced from her wealthy husband in my hometown and came to live with Jean in Stockton. Reliving their youth they took a train like that to Chicago to live it up. On the way back between Reno and Truckee, Janet had a heart attack without any medical assistance on board. She died.
