By escalating its conflict with Hamas in recent days, Israel's strategy has become similar to the United States strategy in going to war in Iraq over Saddam Hussein and oil. While claiming that Hamas is hiding behind the citizens of Gaza, Israel has begun wholesale bombing of whole neighborhoods, claiming to have warned the people, and bombed the main power station for Gaza in an effort to wipe out the Gazan infrastructure that enables Hamas to operate. With ground troops, they are going into neighborhoods and destroying tunnels they believe are used to infiltrate Israel.
All this strategy is doing is killing a lot of innocent people and putting a lot of elderly and sick in jeopardy because of the lack of electrical power and basics that the tenuous infrastructure has brought to the people for their continued ghetto survival. Water and food is at stake after all of the destruction. The core of Hamas has not been touched.
Since Israel has the "Iron Dome," provided in part by support from the United States, as far as I know, none of the rockets from Hamas has caused any damage to life and property in Israel and only a minor inconvenience when one exploded near the airport. In spite of the tunnels being discovered, as far as I know, no suicide bombers have penetrated Israel's border or arrived through the tunnels to do any pain to Israel at all. In this one-sided conflict, Israel has inflicted serious damage and pain to an already strangled ghetto community that borders on genocide. David has grown to gigantic portions slinging bombs while the evil giant, Hamas, is throwing its fiery lances to no avail.
The blunder is that Israel is creating more hatred in the next generation of Gaza children that will not be erased by "talks" or pittance handouts by kind Israeli benevolence. Instead, Israel should have taken the Entebbe Uganda tactic, by using very incisive intelligence and action to strike Hamas directly, similar to recent US action against Al Qaeda. And not retaliated by bombing or invading Gaza. By showing this defensive, tactical strategy, rather than war, Israel would show itself to the world as a strong and capable defender of peace in the area, only attacking terrorism and terrorists, not innocent and struggling people.
