The Catholic catechism does not have an index for forgiveness, neither does it have an index that that which brings in forgiveness, compoassion

In an old file of mine, guarded by a photograph of Mary, Mother of God, and her son Jesus Christ, was an open letter I wrote to the Catholic Bishops of Melbourne in 1991. The address of Professor Chung at the world Council of Churches Meeting held in Canberra was videotaped, and her message. which concerned the calling up the angry spirits of the dead to “make the wrong right”. was being played and replayed. I saw it as a spiritual exercise and questioned whose power she used, and what role did Jesus Christ have in this presentation? The Bishops, in a letter from Archbishop Little, replied said that “there are some other issues which will claim priority on us.” Professor Chung burnt the lists of the angry spirits of the dead she called up and threw the charred remnants over us all at the Assembly.
Today it is 23 years later, and we see anger and fighting in almost every part of the world. Not leading to new and free democracies, but seemingly to unending fighting and destruction and death. I have just finished a PhD on forgiveness “Generating forgiveness nd constructing peace with truthful dialogue: Abrahamic perspectives” published by Dignity Press, http://dignitypress.org/forgiveness. One of the major outcomes was that in the view of the Jewish, Christian and Muslim participants all three Abrahamic religions were not teaching the one commandment of God which he gve to all three religions, to love God and neighbour. I ask you to use your influence to see that this command of God is taught because it is essential to our peace on earth. Also, for 23 years I have been trying to get the Catholic Church to insert an index on forgiveness in their Catechism. Now, I find that compassion also has not got an index in the major teaching vehicle of the Catholic Church. The psychologists teach us that the forgiveness process, after you have made the decision to forgive, begins with compassion. From whom, and how are we to learn about the forgiveness and compassion of God if it is not taught in the Catholic Catechism? Please work to rectify these omissions and call together prayer groups to pray for these issues.
For 20 years in Lakes Entrance, Victoria, my husband and I had a parish priest, Father John Shanley, who taught us to pray for one another, and to ask God for healing for one another. It is imperative that Father John Shanley’s legacy be remembered, and put into practice. He always, in his healing Masses. blessed us with the Blessed Sacrament. With Jesus, through Jesus and in Jesus is our healing our life and our hope.
