In my mind I walked along the beach today
The sun warmed my back as the ocean soothed my soul
This was the moment our paths were meant to cross
I’d known it from the breaking of the dawn.
I allowed my body to rest on the wooden bench
As the sea gulls did my scouting for me
And here I waited with serenity in my heart
Knowing my true love would finally join me.

The afternoon sun arrived without invitation
Bringing a sunset painted wildly across the sky
Inside my heart I held onto my dreams
Not questioning or giving up hope
But my true love he did never arrive
Our path crossing just lost in time
For I’d forgotten the most important step
To ask him if he would be mine.
