Mexican official says police profiled illegal immigrants, overstepped authority.......

     Right out of one of the local newspapers today January 30, 2007.

     "Operation Wrangler, a program launched January 22, 2007 by Gov. Rick Perry to combat drug trafficking and human smuggling, is responsible for the questionable and possibly illegal deportation of illegal immigrants in Denton County, Fort Worth, Weatherford and Marshall, officials with the Mexican Consulate of Dallas said Monday.
      The Consulate believes thirty three of forty seven men, women and children held over the weekend at a federal immigration center in Dallas were profiled by police, said spokesman Eudardo Rea Falcon. The forty seven were stopped for traffic violations, asked for immigration papers and handed over to federal officials for deportation, he said."
     Seems to me "Operation Wrangler" is a beneficial program and I say it is about time for whatever good it will do. I must ask what am I reading here? The Mexican Consulate official is upset by what? The illegal deportation of illegal immigrants!!!! How is it illegal to deport someone who sneaked in and broke existing laws in the first place?
     What happens when the authorities in Mexico find illegal immigrants in their country?  They round them up and either kick them out right quick or throw them in some unsanitary prison.
     The article continues......"It is illegal to ask for papers," Mr. Rea said of local law enforcement officials. The only ones who can determine immigration status are immigration officials." Maybe Mr. Rea should analyze his own country's standards or should I say lack there of?
     "Katherine Cesinger said the program (Operation Wrangler) uses intelligence shared among federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to disrupt drug traffickers and human smugglers. It involves ninety sheriff's offices and one hundred thirty three police departments, the Texas Department of Public Safety and other state and federal agencies."

     An unfortunate and sad situation that seems not to have a sensible solution, at least not yet.
