A preacher called Madonna the equivalent of a whore? Will someone tell ministers they sell their bodies of wisdom to their employers, their congregations? What are they compromising? Tales of the impotent.

Looking back over the long career of Madonna, I suddenly get the joke: ‘Like a virgin.’

There is no woman of the 20th century that was more powerful, not even Oprah.

Within one woman, the lion-hearted fire of Italian femininity rode as naked Lady Godiva, hiding the sword of Joan of Arc at her side. Yet not suffering the fool poison of silly kings.

As an innocent virgin, we accepted her apple only to release the dominatrix of modern culture.

I listened to a very sad sermon yesterday. The poor preacher likened Madonna and Brittney Spears to whores because they used their bodies. Funny how the preacher didn’t see himself as a spiritual whore. Because he accepted a wage from his church he was spiritually compromised to play the political game of the congregation, instead of releasing the free spirit, if he had any. He is a spiritual whore, selling his body of wisdom for a wage on the parishioners' terms. Spiritual politician, not an original thought or speck of divine genius in him. And he thought he was laying judgment upon Madonna? Nothing like old-fashioned religious hypocrisy. And the usual lack of self-awareness to see it in him.

Instead of focusing on spiritual events in the dead pages of a Bible, why didn’t the pastor appreciate the live spirit at work today? It goes to show how spiritually limited religion actually is, imprisoned in it theology, afraid to be free.

Of course the preacher was half-right. According to modern secular theology, it’s all about the customer. The customer is king. Without the customer, business would be powerless. And business is the whore of power in our society. It sells the natural world, what its corporate body is a part of for a price, the price for power and survival. Madonna does fall into this category, but she transcends the mundane businessman into the realm of the whole culture.

She is astonishing. After 20 years of listening to the polemics of feminism, insisting that women not be treated as sex objects and be granted equal power with men, the music star stepped forward with her sexuality to show its true power to master the marketplace. The mistress threw the victim-psychology of feminism right in its face. The hysteria of political correctness hit its highest pitch at the same time Madonna’s laughter became its loudest.

Single-handedly the singer took on both the Church and the feminist intelligentsia. She raped the images of pliant sex objects, like Marilyn Monroe, and showed how she commanded them with her will, and sales. Such expertise in dominance and submission in pop culture and the market. And using both her name, sexuality and ‘sacrilegious’ iconography, Madonna showed how impotent the influence of the Church had become. It was now the plaything of secular society. The Church had lost its power and control over the meaning of its Story. A woman was showing how the eunuchs had lost control of the harem. Secular society is defined by its reaction to former Church dominance. If the Church is upset, glee fills advertisers.

And it was through sexuality. Not just sex, but deviant dominance and submission, with the woman as the top. Suddenly the real issues surrounding control in our society was being turned on its head. How could there be equality if Madonna was being dominant?

As usual, such issues have become lost in the mainstream. It is only kinky the first time. And society never understood the real depth in the message. It just wanted to be flogged with the pleasure of license, in a virtual music video. Nothing ever penetrates deeply in this culture.

Little girls want to mimic Madonna, to be as powerful a woman as she. The preacher protested. They should be playing with Barbie Dolls, not dressing provocatively. He couldn’t read between the lines on that one.

So it seems the preacherman was really protesting a lot more than his superficiality realized. He felt impotent like his sermon. A ‘whore’ had bettered his own ‘whoredom.’ Male control bettered by the feminine. The spirit of a live woman reigning over the masculine marketplace, the religion of our times. Best to go back to praising the spirit of the modern man, like the warrior prince, Tiger Woods.

So where is God in all this? Just ask Madonna. We are civilized. God is still under the control of men. Wisdom is feminine, and must buckle to the dominance of the masculine.

Feminism brought women to power. Men are becoming more invisible by the day. It seems men still have no idea about creating life. Iraq proves we just go on controlling and destroying, using our powers of illusion to keep the masses quiet.

The feminine still has a way to go. If a woman could command such cultural control with her whim, imagine what the ultimate feminine will do when She wishes to express Her opinion with some energy?

Wisdom is feminine, energy is masculine. Put some energy into a woman and look out! We all know how hard it is to find the reverse in domesticated men today. Energies lead around by the nose. Society never got the ‘whole’ picture on Madonna. There is nothing whole in our disposable, conceptual human environment. Religion wants humans to be whole. Yet, like its secular son, it is oblivious to the message of its daughter. It still thinks it needs to control the meaning of wisdom and life itself, instead of letting it live freely. Nothing is whole in civilization or religion. Our minds are no longer structured that way. Thanks Church.
