Peace is like motherhood. What is lost in the win-win?
The dogma of peace in the spiritual industry does a disservice to itself.
It's a panacea. Who can be against it? Like motherhood?
But it is now part of group-think, in our pain-allergic 'love' culture. You feel it in spiritual groups, where everyone is encouraged to be at peace within themselves and one another.
Peace is the result of struggle, a new plateau on the mountain. It is not something in and of itself. Without the opposite, it is meaningless. That's why spirituality is such a drifters sport in modern times. Don't intrude or interrupt. There may be some emotion underneath that could stir controversy, causing the true state of people's hearts to rear their heads.
Best to keep the peace after 12,000 years of torturous civilization. Let's enjoy the peace from our abundance, equality, and medicine. Peace will be maintained. We are intolerant of its opposite.
Peace is only something to chew on when you have known the opposite. But storms are vital to Natural life. We just need to control them, to be happy with conceptual breakthroughs to support the peace agenda.
Our rejection of pain lessens our fascination of the stories in the wisdom of struggle and horror. That sounds like a Nazi fantasy of wreaking hell upon humanity. But it is actually a questioning of the good hearts of what they learned in the hell that was not of their making. Those who knew the Great Depression and World War II can appreciate peace, and made it a focal point of society's transformation. We just inherited it, without knowing the opposite. Are we deadened in some way?
We are against violence, the savage animalistic, senseless horror that humans can do. That's why we need to be civilized to make everyone happy and content.
But animals are neither savage nor 'animalistic,' and they are wild. A tiger is quite content with himself. He eats when he needs to, has to work for it, so he appreciates it and doesn't take more than what he needs. It is only civilized humans that exhibit the behavior we attribute to the wild.
The food chain may be a hierarchical world, like civilization, but it is not genocidal. What we are doing with equality, peace and civilizing, is enforcing civilized behavior with strict discipline and limiting options, and a healthy dose of making a taboo about disturbing the peace. Stop violence, but don't stop passionate debate.
One of the major sins of modern society is disturbing the peace. It happens so seldom, we have to watch the news so we can vicariously enjoy those who do, and judge them.
Isolated in our suburbs, it's hard to get people's attention, let alone get them worked up. We don't want other people's attention, because they will want to impose their beliefs on us. If we do, we want to become an adored celebrity, which is such a narcissistic pursuit, thus the temptations of wealth. Having interrupted humanity with joy, like acting or singing, the rewards of fame are bountiful.
Maintaining the status quo is as prevalent as it has always been, and in our business culture we are all trained in the proper social behaviors.
We don't like other people getting too close. It's a Protestant thing. Intimacy is still a taboo, a risk of trust we'd rather not take. Rather just get our 'friends with benefits.' With such a deluge of knowledge, information and data, any real criticisms bounce off the social strata like the shields around the Starship Enterprise.
Everything is just a momentary opinion, a thought, as disposable as a coffee cup. It is hard to make things stick and gnaw at the craw. Our long prosperity and hangover from the government intervention days has really given us a distaste for outside forces on our personal peace of mind. Get a job, get the money, live life, leave me alone.
Group settings are like business meetings. There is structure and order. Everyone is shy to speak, not knowing the reaction. And there is always someone there with a big mouth that won't shut up, getting off topic, assertive, reinforcing our silence in the rules. Order is maintained. The controls on our mouths entering the ether to see how reality reacts to it.
It is all about 'peace.' Social peace suppresses us into private peace, splintering society even more. It's like we don't trust emotions that may even speak our truth even if we use politically correct words.
'Lower your voice,' debate calmly, with rational concepts for debate so things don't get wild. Emotions get hurt, and then trouble starts. You'd think we could deal with freed emotions better, but they need to be locked up as an illness, a failure of the mind to keep control of one's passions.
One of the disturbing truths of our lives, the bad and the good, wasn't caused by us, but God.
That goes against so many dominant notions of free will and our lives just being a bunch of atoms that we create the meaning from. God has nothing to do with it. This is how limited our understanding of God is. It is what we don't want to focus on, the uncontrolled events that we can't explain adequately with cause-and-effect.
If it's unexplained, it just means science will eventually get around to explaining it, when it has time. We focus on what we control, taking responsibility for our lives and not blaming our parents or God.
But if you're a student of personal events, most of our lives are a crap shoot, with events forming on their own. If we were honest, we would realize how little we actually control. Why these unexplainable course of events occur, we'd rather not hazard a guess and reveal how out of control we really are.
But the poetry of one's life is filled with difficult grist. Our personality, our parents, the course of events, all rub against each other in our quest and expectations of life. We don't find a lot of meaning in it. We just need to get a soothing meaning attached to it and get on enjoying life.
But everyone is disturbed, or should be. If not, they don't know themselves. And when society emphasizes 'peace' and 'love' so much, they are trying to sedate us, instead of going into the fire to see what burns off from it. The meaning in the 'war,' in the 'violence,' in the frustrations, betrayals, depression, lost hopes, personality that people hate, the people who make our lives hell, was all God disturbing the peace. Just like the love of Jesus came to disturb His society and piss the average person off, who was just trying to live a happy life and not have to worry about Salvation, treating everyone well, feeding the poor, etc.
We emphasize the placid 'love God,' and banish the bigger truth to the obsolete Old Testament. It is threatening and painful. But if God is love, He doesn't Give pain. How naive. We're here to experience life without Him so our hearts can grow. Of course God is going to set up our lives to get the right amount of disturbance. Why waste His or our time if He wasn't? We blame society for our ills. God must remain blameless. No wonder so few can find 'God.' We have created a thicker Veil over Him, making it so much harder to contact Him. Pain can either be static, or a passage to something greater. Society only buys into the static.
Modern society is very thin. We are winnowing out any depths of wisdom of the negative side of humans, to get them happy and healthy, the modern perfection that the old Church demanded to be prepared to live in heaven. When we demand peace without understanding the war, the problems go underground and warps in unseen ways.
Right now no one wants to personally be disturbed by climate change. No one wants to face all our good intentions for peaceful man that has killed human habitat. Politicians can't disturb us to the extent necessary. They would be voted out. Maintain the peace, the status quo, the fragile state of happiness. We must seduce and convince people into saving the environment, while not seriously disturbing them or the economy. The cult of peace as an isolated ideology, ironically, is one of the sources for the coming confrontation with Nature. The road to hell is paved...
Perhaps if we took a lesson from the savage, wild animals, we could learn something that would be useful to us. Killing plants and animals is necessary for survival. Just take only what you need, and be thankful for the sacrifice of the lives your take, not just God (or your bank account). We can't face those integrated truths. That would be humbling and strange, 'just enough' sounds like poverty when life is a constant feast, and deprivation sounds like pain, not the addiction that it more accurately is.
We are dominated by the drug of peace that avoids a wider reality in the passion of life. Peace in the West stifles us, training us to stay at home and shut up. Don't interrupt our peace. We're not interested in the truths when disturbances dominate us.
