Have you ever turned over in the middle of the night and heard a holy whisper? Well, it happened to me recently and in the fogginess of sleep, I kept saying what I heard in my mind making sure that I would remember what I heard when I was fully awake. It was important to me to remember and that I would not miss what the Lord was saying.

          I heard these words, ‘I will withhold no good thing.’ Now this is the thing about me that I know that the Lord knows, that I would search out the matter. Searching, I found the scripture which contained the words that were spoken, in Psalm 84:11. “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” (KJV).

          It is important to me that when I hear a word of that magnitude that I must understand the timing, especially if I have never had such an encounter. In my search and studies, I found that the timing of these words was in the month of Shevat on the Jewish Calendar. This month is associated with the Tribe of Asher, which was a tribe of great abundance. Now, what really got my attention was the words that I found that were to be shouted aloud during this month. ‘My blessings are on the way!’

          I was and am still excited about what I heard. But there was a part of the word that had a condition, ‘you must walk uprightly.’ Thinking on this, I began to wonder if this was a warning and help in advance. Was God speaking His intentions and giving me a warning to discern and stay on the path that was set before me?

          While noting that is important to walk uprightly according to the Word of God, a question comes to mind. What is a ‘good thing?’ A thing is an action, deed, event, performance of a possibility. There is no specific name for the thing. All this tells me is that it is a ‘good thing’ and it comes from the Lord.

          A lot of times the first thing one will think about is natural when this type of word is spoken. “He will give you houses full of good things that you did not put there. He will give you wells that you did not dig. He will give you vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant, and you will have plenty to eat.” Deuteronomy 6:11 (ERV).  Houses, land and cars are good, and add to the quality of life in the natural, but not the spiritual. These natural ‘good things’ are temporal and will fade and change over time.

          Is there not a desire to let the heart override the mind and desire the spiritual ‘good thing?’ “Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value].” Colossians 3:2 (AMP).  If there is a longing for Him and we are serious about finding Him and having new encounter with all of our hearts, He will not disappoint us. He is longing and waiting for us to come to Him. He has so many ‘good things for us that come in the form of peace, wisdom, revelation, joy, strength, rest and even His presence in a greater way. Seek Him for the ‘good thing’ and pay attention to everything. “For he performeth the thing that is appointed for me: Job 23:14 (KJV). “For He will carry out exactly what He has planned for me, and in the future, there are more plans to come. (Voice).
