God and the Cosmos have very strange ways of speaking to us.

I am kinda involved with a married man. There, I said it. We've never dated or even held hands. Yet we flirt shamelessly from behind anonymous smart phones. When physically together there is absolutely no evidence of our secret lives. None! Zilch! Nadda!

I hope.

Anyway, like any woman in a like situation I find myself doing the "What if?" game. What if he really divorces his wife in five years? What if he doesn't? What if...? What if...? What if...?

So I look for answers in places that may give it without asking for something in return. I've asked the Holy Bible but I won't share here the brutal answers I found in the Old Testament. Jesus was much more forgiving than the Old Ones of the Ancient World but still stern in His dictates. I asked tarot cards but they made absolutely no sense whatsoever. Guess one needs a medium to interpret. Rune Stones were a little clearer but they preferred to "talk" about other issues in my life that they believed more urgent.

I was about to give up one cool night in March. I was sitting up in bed, resting the recently replaced knee, and working hard to shoo the cats and dogs away from my "meal" of peanut butter and crackers. Suddenly I noticed a curious divot in the peanut butter still around the top of the lid. It was a heart! A single, perfectly shaped heart! Was this the omen I had been searching for?

My own beating heart jumped and took my body with it, surprising my aching leg into grouchy rebellion. It was! It had to be the omen! It had to be the answer to my endless questions and prayers. Our love affair was meant to be. The Cosmos had spoken so lovingly! So how could we be doing anything wrong?

Then I was brought brutally back to earth and my smile dimmed as I was suddenly reminded of what the heart was made of. Peanut butter. And a new "What if?" crossed my mind.

What if the Cosmos was asking me a question in return? What if it was asking me a single all important question? And what if the question was, "Are you nuts?!"

I like the ending. Instead of reading tea leaves, your reading peanut butter images. And, peanuts are not technically nuts at all. Nor are those things that hang between a man's legs. ;-)

It is obvious that the guy is just fooling around. Probably more with you than he is with his wife. Unless you're willing to just play, I would run the other way.

Finally, as a male who was single for a long time looking for a woman to share my life, dogs and cats, while they can fill a void for the love they give unconditionally, are a big turnoff for most men who see pets as a big drag on relationships. Cats can be particularly offensive.

The world isn't a beach; it's made of peanut butter. Perhaps we are all a little nuts because the questions are always there. Life is in finding the answers and accepting them when they arrive. John
