This is a prose version of a poem of the same title. See other version on this site in the poetry category.
Just in case I ever decided to write anything of a humourous or comic kind (which, up to this point, I have never done) I once posted the following bit of wisdom from Christopher Fry on my study wall (it's still there!):
In tragedy every moment is eternity; in comedy, eternity is a moment.
Well, I think that idea can be also applied to the writing of humour (not to make too fine a point about the difference between humour and comedy).
And that's why I probably deserve a medal for relating the following story to you and why you (as the reader) probably deserve one too for accepting my invitation to join me in this moment of eternity. Let's go!
We'll call the story : The Impotent Bull
Hey!! Come back, dear reader! It ain't going to be THAT bad so let's move on:
Bill O'Hanrahan is a stud farmer from Bullamakanka (a little place not too far from the Australian Black Stump). About three weeks ago he paid a large sum of money for a prize pedigreed stud bull. Shortly afterwards he discovered (in the way that stud farmers discover such things) that the bull had a serious problem: he was impotent.
It's Saturday afternoon and he's tossing off a few pots of his favourite amber liquid with his friend, Russ Perkins, a fellow stud farmer also from Bullamakanka. In between sips, Bill tells Russ the story about his prize bull's impotence.
At this news, Russ perks up his ears and exclaims, "Hey, Bill! What a bloody co-in-SY-dunts! The same thing happened to MY prize bull only a week ago. Have you taken yours to the vet?"
"Yep!" replies Bill, “and he prescribed some medication which fixed my bloke up in a matter of days!"
"You bloody beaut!" yells Russ. "I haven't taken mine to the vet yet. Maybe you can save me the trip and the fee. What was in the medication that did the trick for your bloke?"
"Don't exactly know," says Bill (a wistful, faraway look in his eyes),"but it tasted like bloody orange juice."
(end of story)
OK...O-Kayyyy! I know! It's back to the drawing board for ANOTHER shot at eternity as a moment! See you later....
