I'm strecthed out on the sofa with a notebook and pencil in hand, golf is on the TV, the windows are open providing a nice cross breeze on this muggy Pittsburgh day and I'm trying to come up with something to post on AD. I don't want to post another story from Compressionism: The Pittsburgh Stories. I've all ready posted five. The rest of the stories on AD were written after the publication of the book. But if I post more stories from the book, why buy it when you can read it on AD? I have no ideas for a new short story or for an article.
Outside, it's started to rain. There's cold beer in the fridge and my spaghetti sauce is cooling on the stove. I'll be eating spaghetti for the rest of the coming week. A credit card company sent me a card, one of several that I have and I was surprised to get it. Because of student loans and credit cards I'm up to my neck in debt. But with the card and my part time job I'll now have enough money to make it through the summer until my full time position as a "grant writer" kicks in at the hospital that has decided to hire me. Life is suddenly very good.
And you know what? If the hospital wants me to wear a suit for the entry position of "greeter" I'll happily wear a suit. The second-hand store has plenty of suits for less than $30. I clean up nicely.
why not write a story on somebody getting an unsolicited card like that in the mail and the hassle of trying to give it back to the financial institution?
