The site pioneered audio downloads of poetry performances, midi music files and other music files as well as other audio experiences (thus helping to establish perfomance based art forms as a major part of the new online literary ezine culture). The seven editions of The Animist archived by the Australian national library also feature innovative literary art forms explicitly birthed by the globalised multimedia environment of the world wide web.
