Holidays in America are all blown out of proportion and seldom reflect the original sentiment.
Maybe someday it will be recognized as the time when the Natives of this land showed tremendous compassion and generosity toward strangers who would surely have perished without them.
People have a tendency to create their own rituals and celebrations with only a vague recollection of history. Fortunately reenactments like I've seen of what happened at Plymouth Colony will help people see the importance of Native Americans and their relationship with those first people from Europe who came to this continent without a clue how to live in the wilderness. And even more ignorance about the people that already lived here.
Unfortunately, that kind of ignorance persists as long as no one teaches young people the truth.
