American Imperialism seems as much a part of America today as it has been during the American Revolutionary period during 1775-1783, when Americans practiced the characteristic of controlling and influencing the weaker nations and their people.  The United States interest in the Western Hemisphere during that time, proved just as prevalent as her interest in the Middle East today. Americans were and still are, in many cases, stereotyped as a power machine who constantly meddles in the affairs of other developing nations. These nations promise the abundance of cheap labor and raw natural resources. For many Americans in key positions, these resources hold the promise of aid in the development and steady employment of resources that can add meat and potatoes to the pot of soup stirred by a greedy U.S. economy.

It has been the start of the American imperialism in the 19th Century that deemed viable in adding to the many events that help shaped history.  Although many Americans supported overseas expansion, many campaigned against the hostile principles of war-like criminal -aggressions that violated many freedoms, especially in the Philippines.  It was the late 19 century that witnessed the onset of technology and networks of communication, transportation and commerce, coming together to form empires that amplified a time when industrial developments were in closer reach than at any time before. The imperialism decade paved the way for the United States to become the most important industrial power in the world, which added to the undeniable importance of finding markets and other avenues to obtain raw materials.

According to The American Anti-Imperialist League, imperialism is hostile and evil.  Some say that American imperialism divided certain countries and destroyed the basic principles of their citizens; others say that American imperialism developed training and encouraged the people. The truth is that American imperialism was brought about to interfere and then join in and maybe take over the promise of developing prosperities in respects to England, France and Russia.  With later additions of Germany and Japan, the aggressive and rapid drive to control foreign lands, as it was apparent, seemed inevitable; nevertheless, while Americans were busy trying to justify imperial control other social, economic, and political forces would quickly mix into the soup that was just beginning to boil. Those social, economic and political forces would include the selling of products, the gaining of resources, the spreading of liberty, religion, civilization and let us not forget the addition of several naval stations across the pacific to move ships to china.  Americans propelled imperialism as a means to conquer and then protect its existing as well as, overseas territories.

The outcome of the foreign policy of American imperialism going forward into the twentieth Century is that of the swallowing of a bitter, but sweet drink, not fully knowing if, that in time, it will sour the stomach or quietly evaporate.  It is wide known that since the 1800's when American imperialism hit its peak, America has been influencing other countries politics, economics, and cultures, spurring its own way of helping nations maintain liberty and democracy. Panama and Pueto Rico are nations where Americans have planted a democratic government that ensures that all of its people are free and equal, while offering economic support where necessary.

Today there seems to be a different kind of imperialism seen through the eyes of America.  Cultural imperialism can be seen as the promotion of American industries to other nations in the hope that American culture may become widespread and the norm. Could it be that America, with all of its pros and cons, still hold an appetite of aggression in a desire to influence other cultures?  Many countries seem satisfied with the past and present developments of American influence.  Could it be that the promotion of an American Culture would deem a viable attribute?  Surely, there seem to be no lack of shortages of the many immigrants that are seeking the American way of life, even today.

In closing and as I've written before, it has been the start of the American imperialism in the 19th Century that deemed viable in adding to the many events that help shaped history. The United States sought to control trade circumstances in the Philippines, Panama, Hawaii, Cuba, etc…even if it meant fighting a war, such as the Spanish-American war. Still today, America is resourceful in securing nations that promise an abundance of cheap labor and raw natural resources that continue to hold the promise of aid in the development and steady employment of our United States economy and those who wish to join us. America continues to assist in maintaining liberty and democracy in her attempt to police the world.  Even the outcome of the foreign policy of American imperialism going forward into the twentieth Century remains to be the envy of the world, mostly due to the developments of the American imperialism and her influences; it is primarily through those influences America hold 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population.  It is assumed that Americans are, in many cases, stereotyped as a power machine that is constant in the meddling in the affairs of other developing nations; moreover, there is no other place that is as influential in the matter of politics, economics, culture diversity, military strength and social ethics, than that of the United States of America.
