When a Great Gift becomes a Scourge.
On occasion, rare men are blessed with power to heal others. They never claimed it as their own power, but one that flowed through them, enigmatically, impersonally. As if by magic.
Jose Pedro De Freitas, later known as José Arigé, or just Zé, born in Brazil in 1921, was psychic surgeon. He performed varied operations with his penknife, sometimes just his fingers. He excised countless tumours, attached loose corneas, extracted innumerable bleeding ulcers, malignant cancers.
Bruno Groening, born in Gdansk (Danzig) in 1906, healed thousands by his very presence––the power, apparently, radiating from him for some distance without any effort on his part.
Edgar Cayce, born in 1877, an American, healed thousands by diagnosing their ailments, mostly at a distance, and then subscribing often unorthodox treatments for some reputedly incurable diseases.
Sai Baba, born in 1926, a diminutive saint from a forgotten village in southern India, did all that, and is said to have resurrected the dead.
Finally Emmet Fox, born in Ireland in 1886, educated in England, as well as Joseph Murphy, born in 1898, likewise of Irish and English origins, spent years studying the world’s major religions only to conclude that The Power, the Healing Power, lies within us! All of us.
There seem to be but two things that all these men had in common. This first was deep faith in the Universal Benevolence. And the second: none of them studied medicine.
These are the facts. The following is fiction. It differs from all of the above in one other aspect. Dr. Peter Thornton was a highly trained physician. After many years of arduous studies of medicine, years of internship and subsequent residency at a leading Teaching Hospital in Montreal, he discovered that through his hand flowed some form of energy that denied everything he’d ever learned at the university or at the hospital. His hand had been given power to heal; power he neither understood nor dreamed of, nor could imagine.
His promising career lay in shambles, his professional standing destroyed by what to others would have been an unprecedented blessing. To Doctor Peter Thornton MD, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, the blessing was unquestionably a curse.
One Just Man is his story. In essence, Peter Thornton had been given power over life and death. They say that power corrupts. Can a man given such power remain unscathed? Read it for yourself. The 2nd Edition will be published this October. Enjoy.
