For those who would like to know what inspired me most in the books I read when I was a teenager, here is my translation of the original passage

“Wind, Sand and Stars” by Antoine de Saint Exupéry

As for you, Bedouin of Libya, who saved us, you will never be erased from my memory.  I will never remember your face. You are the Man and you appear to me with the face of all human beings at once. You have never stared at us, yet you already recognized us. You are the beloved brother. And in turn I shall recognize you in all human beings. You appear to me blessed with nobility and benevolence, great lord who has the power to dispense water.  All my friends, all my enemies in you walk towards me, and I don’t have a single enemy left in the world.

The words of Saint Exupéry can be put in the mouth of Sherif Ali or the bedouin Auda abu Tayi of Lawrence of Arabia fame, when honor between men was their words more valuable than any piece of paper and when brotherhood was beyond skin color, religion or blood.
