I am writing this short article because I feel that something is wrong between Netanyahu and our president. He is very different from President Kennedy or President Reagan. They were charming. I am now 83 years old and I survived WWII. My father, who was in WWI and in WWII also survived those wars. We were educated to value freedom and liberty and let everyone make his own choice, democratically, like in the United States, be it the Democrats or the Republicans.

It is unfair that President Obama advises Netanyahu what to do or not to do. Probably our president thinks that he is more intelligent than Netanyahu. However, I realized that when he gave his speech in Cairo, his knowledge of the Jewish people did not impress me. Yet, Jewish history goes back for thousands of years.

When Israel was born again, I do not believe that the US was advising Israel what to do. I think that the Israelis are smart enough to make their own decisions after suffering so much under Hitler. Does Obama know that the Netanyahu brothers and father were patriots and did a lot for the Jewish people? Bibi Netanyahu and his brother were heroes. His brother died while saving the French plane with 200 French people in Entebbe and Bibi saved the Belgian plane full of passengers, which was kidnapped by Arafat’s terrorists in the Israeli airport of Lod.  

I know that the reason why a good part of the American Jews in the Democratic Party is with Obama and they do not oppose him is, because they were always Democrats and they are being polite. The proof is that Obama could not convince all the Jews in the US. This is because the Jews are very independent and everyone tries to be nice. I believe that no one likes to be told what to do. The fact that Netanyahu won the elections shows that the Jewish people do not like to be led by foreign people, and particularly if they sent teams and money to launch a campaign against Netanyahu.

I have more than 400 family members who live in Israel and I care about them. They are of different political views, but they do not criticize each other. 

Our president is near the end of his term. I believe that as a president he should not interfere with an ally.  After all, he was helped by David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel who are also Jewish. I feel that if we respect the others we will be respected as well. Our president is half of Muslim descent. I grew up with Muslims in a Muslim country. There was respect and understanding among the ethnic groups. The Arabs have lived with the Jews for thousands of years, and in Spain there was a great cooperation between them. The Jews have lived in many Arab countries but after WWII they have all been expelled from those countries for political reasons.

The first day the president was elected, I was happy for him, because it was a sign that democracy was working in the US. But seeing him attack Netanyahu many times, I believe that he is making a big mistake. The Jews have been a people of liberty for thousands of years. This is why the Romans destroyed their country.

Although the Germans killed 6 million Jews, they regret it today and do everything possible to support Israel. Even Spain made a gesture by legislating that all Jews who are descendants of those expelled or persecuted during the inquisition are eligible for Spanish citizenship. I know the Europeans better than any American. By constantly attacking Israel’s policy, Obama is hurting not only Israel, but the Democrats as well.

The negotiations with Iran are ill advised. I know the Iranians well and I was friends with the former Prime Minister of Iran   Amir-Abbas Hoveyda  and his family. Unfortunately he was hanged by the Iranian religious extremists. His family still lives in Europe. In Arabic there is a saying, “Take the words of the one who makes you cry and don’t take the words of the one who makes you laugh.”

I hope that destiny will bring Jews and Arabs together again, as they are from the same origin and from the same Middle East. Today’s Iranians are not from the same origin as those we learned about in history, in ancient Persia, but from different origins. Today the Arabs and the Jews will remember that these two people are in fact the children of Abraham or (Ibrahim). They can be unified and can beat the Iranians if they challenge them.
