Political tactic demonstrates what our senators and representatives really think of we the People

"We think it will be a defining issue in the next election because it says a lot about someone's priorities and values," said Rep. Chris Van Hollen, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

"The choices are very simple," the Montgomery County Democrat said. "Are you going to support children's health, or are you going to vote in lock step with the president out of blind, partisan loyalty?"

This quote was taken from a recent story in the Baltimore Sun regarding the veto of the children's healthcare bill. It's a carefully-phrased sound bite written, no doubt, by the representative's speech writer and designed to distill the discussion down to either/or. Either you see it our way or you're blindly following the other side to hell.

This is a prime example of the political sleight of mouth both parties use to try to press the emotional buttons of the electorate. Unfortunately for the aforementioned representative, children's healthcare is not an either/or discussion, no matter how badly or for whatever reason a person wants to make it one.

From the repeated use of this political tactic to sway public opinion, it's easy to see that the denizens of Capitol Hill and the major media organizations regard we the People of these United States as nothing more than simpletons and morons to be manipulated at will.

No wonder they've tried so hard in the past to take our guns.

Perhaps it's time we consider a new way, a better way, a cheaper alternative to the business of governing America.

A national referendum once a year where we the People vote to decide the issues that affect us all. Then we can downsize, get rid of the dead weight wasting our time and money in Congress, and fund any damn thing we please with the savings in salaries and perks. Hell, we might even balance the budget.

We could then choose to make political sleight of mouth a crime, a felony punishable by thirty years of hard labor as a real American like the rest us morons out here slaving away, paying our taxes so our senators and representatives can live large on our dime and treat us all like common fools.

Boy, would I ever vote for a simple law like that, moron that I am.
