I've met many people who suffer with arthritis. Arthritis comes in several forms. Here is a summary of current nutritional info that may prove helpful. Again... ask your doctor before you undertake anything listed here!!!
Apparently arthritis is multi-causal. Let's see now. Arthritis can come from:
1. Injury and friction due to running, jumping, jogging, playing sports like soccer, basketball, tennis and football.
2. Improperly digested fats. This improperly digested fat produces a free-radical that attacks our joints.
3. Bacterial and fungal infections. Some forms such as psoriatic arthritis can show up from an untreated infection remaining the body for a while. (The time frame can be from a week to several months.)
4. Dairy products can cause psoriatic arthritis, according to the Psoriasis Association.
Following is Information that may be of assistance for those attempting to control their arthritis:
1. Try Olivio (butter/olive oil mixture), made by Lee Iacocca, (former CEO of Chrysler!!!) Friends of mine have switched to olive oil or OLIVIO. I tried OLIVIO as well...It tastes like butter and I can still have tea and toast.
2. Enzymes, in capsules, can help lower inflammation when taken on an empty stomach. See www.wobenzyme.com. Also folic acid has been shown to lower inflammation. Cardiologists have suggested 800mcg daily to lower inflammation.
3. Others have to take extra calcium and Centrum Senior or 1/2 a Centrum Senior (has molybdenum and 1 a day doesn't) along with some extra vitamin C. (Molybdenum helps with bodily functions like digestion and cell repair.)
4. Others take prescription drugs like Celebrex, etc.....(these are anti-inflammatory drugs..)
5. Two of the best arthritis supplements are CosAMIN DS and Cosamin ASU, a mixture of Chondroitin and Glucosamine with Pharmaceutical Quality!!! These are components of one's joints. The idea is by taking them as supplements we supply the body with the materials to repair our joints. Remember that one's size (i.e. height & weight) will indicate what quantity of capsules at a time. They have a special price on www.drugstore.com and it's better than the nearby pharmacy. Note: this is the only Chondroitin and Glucosamine supplement that has nearly eliminated my pain... If I stop taking it.. the pain returns in 2 or 3 days.
6. There is also a new solution (hyaluronic acid or synovial fluid) that can be added back to the joint via injection. A colleague from work had been told he needed two knee replacements. He's waited now two years. Must say it was rough for him. But he took the injections on Monday and he seems to be walking better.
7. Have you tried the patches or sprays? A couple of names are Thermacare, SalonPas, ABSORBINE JR, etc.. They can be placed on the muscle or joint to relieve pain and the medicine does not have to pass through one's stomach... They work faster as well...eliminating the possible side effect of ulcers...
8. Psoriatic arthritis can also be allergen related...Psoriasis Association says folks should eliminate dairy foods from their diet to see if there is any improvement... Doctors claim arthritis is an autoimmune system problem where this system overacts and attacks itself. Also important, logically speaking, the body doesn't attack itself. It attacks intruders like colds, viruses and diseases.. but researchers are still searching. They've not found the intruders yet. To better health!!
