Christmas cards can grant relief...

Piggy Ink is once again trying to ink it's way around the globe, and trying to grant relief in the process. Our current project combines the talents of AD's Bernice Angoh and hand-crafted Banana Leaf Art from Haiti...It's Christmas Cards for/from Haiti.

PIGGY INK's hand-crafted cards feature Banana Leaf Art made by remote villagers in Haiti, and fabulous poetry by AD's Bernice Angoh. 90% of all the proceeds from the sale of the cards go to SION FONDs. http://www.sionfonds.org Check it out.

For this project, Piggy Ink joined with Sionfonds, a non-profit group, which uses these and other funds to educate the children in remote Haitian villages, where otherwise there would be no schools. They teach job skills to adults, finance a "goat project" and lunch program, as well as send medical teams to Haiti.

Haiti is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. 50% of Haitian children never reach adulthood. 70% of the country is illiterate. And many thousands of children are homeless, helpless, and starving. Last year 2 hurricanes hit the country, causing even more devastation.

SionFonds was created to educate the children of Haiti. The founder of SionFonds, Guesno Mardy, believes that literacy is the key to change in Haiti; without it, he believes the poverty cycle cannot be broken. As an orphanage director, he also understands that if the poverty cycle is not broken, many children will end up starving, or being placed in orphanages, or end up on the streets as restaveks. He created this program with the help of Annie Blackstone (a personal friend of mine) in the hopes that these children and families will be able to remain intact--as families.
