Former Hillary supporters and independent women voters who are thinking of voting for McCain/Palin because Sarah is a soccer mom need to take a closer look at her record.

The woman is an evangelical Christian who supports Intelligent Design being taught in biology classrooms. Federal courts have ruled in Scopes II and Scopes III that creationism is unconstitutional and that Intelligent Design is just creationism under another name. Intelligent Design relies on myth and magic and can’t be scientifically tested. It also violates the establishment clause of the first amendment, which outlines separation of church and state.

Worse yet, the woman has a vindictive temperament that would make Richard Nixon look like a teddy bear. Not only did she try to fire the Wasilla, Alaska, librarian for not agreeing to censor books but, as governor of Alaska, she also tried to get her public safety director to fire her sister’s husband, a state trooper, during an acrimonious divorce proceeding. Republicans are working feverishly to whitewash this investigation. Don’t fall for it. They did the same thing with Richard Clarke, Bush’s terrorism expert, when he published a book revealing that Bush was told about an impending Al Qaeda attack prior to 911.

Palin also hunts moose and shoots wolves from an airplane and was for a 5 AM closing time in the Wasilla saloons. Did she need the meat for her family or was she just out there shooting wild animals for the fun of it?

Worse yet, Sarah Palin also supported a conceal and carry law for the drunks still carousing at 5 AM.

Then there is the most significant women’s issue: women’s rights. Evangelical women do not support a woman’s right to be all she can be. Even Palin had to consult her husband when it came time to pare down the Alaskan budget. They firmly believe a woman’s place is in the home with her children, but they’re not afraid to make an exception when it’s to their political benefit.

Tina Fey’s portrayal of Sarah Palin on Saturday Night Live was spot on. When Amy Poehler, who was portraying Hillary Clinton said, “We don’t agree on anything,” she couldn’t have been more accurate.

You should remember that Palin is not running for president. If elected vice president she will not have the same influence Clinton gave Gore or Bush gave (out of necessity) Cheney. She will be lucky to have the same kind of influence Richard Clarke had after he warned of an impending Al Qaeda attack.

I was surprised to see so few people demonstrating at the Republican National Convention, only 10,000 or so with around 800 being arrested. You would think more people would be outraged.  You would think Obama would show some outrage.There’s a new Norm Coleman ad out that portrays Al Franken, who’s running for senator against him in Minnesota, as an angry man who uses foul language when arguing with conservatives. That ad could backfire. Franken says he hates those right-wing (expletive deleted). Maybe he shouldn’t have used that kind of language during an interview, but at least he’s passionate about his beliefs. How can anybody look at the last eight years without some kind of outrage. Lying about the war in Iraq, over four thousand US deaths with many more Iraqis dying in the crossfire. The charge-it mentality when it came to paying for it. Invading Americans’ right to privacy. Destroying America’s reputation in the world. Playing dirty politics, the worst of which was the Swift boat smears, where a man who son the Silver Star was portrayed as a traitor by a man who went AWOL from his National Guard unit, then expected these same soldiers to fight his phony war. A deregulation policy on Wall Street that led to the Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac buyouts, the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy and another buyout of the AIG insurance company. Where is all this money coming from? Are we headed for a trillion dollar deficit for the next president to clean up? If you elect McCain/Palin, you won’t get it by raising taxes, that’s for sure. Where is it going to come from? Painting yourself into a corner is not good governmental policy.
