When you can not talk there is a small electronic device which has gone by the wayside called a Tru Tone Electrolarynx. Computers of course have swooped in and taken over the day. But what if you can not use a computer? What if you want to speak to the person next to your or across the room. What do you usually do?

(1) First you jump up and down.


(2) Wave your arms.


(3) Or drop a book on the floor.


WHEN YOU FINALLY GET THE PERSON'S ATTENTION:


(a) Use sign language


(b) Use the finger alphabet


(c) Gel pen for best results on paper.


I am going to describe to you this small electronic device which might give you a voice and a chance to be heard once again.

(1) You hold it in one hand and place it against your neck.


(2) You mouth the words.


(3) The electronic device vibrates and out comes your words.


Yes, I would say it is a miracle, especially if you have suddenly become unable to speak or if you have been unable to speak for years.

Your family and friends will have to adjust their hearing and really listen to your new electronic voice. But once they get used to it they will find they really missed hearing your spoken word.

It is hard for the person who can not speak to try and understand what you are trying to convey to them. It leads to frustration on both sides.

PROBLEM:


(1) You may have a problem with people understanding you on the telephone but do not stop trying to reach them.

(2) Your neck will get sore from pushing the device against it.


(3) It takes some practice to find the best placement on your throat.
