Make Your Decision About Your Medicare Plan
October is the time for everyone to make a decision about which Medicare Plan to be on. If never on Medicare you need to understand which plans are there for you and the difference between each plan.
Part A – Is Free. In Hospital anything over a 24 hour period. Medical Equipment.
Part B – You pay for it. Outpatient, Doctor, X-ray, Laboratory, ambulance ride, etc.
Part C HMO or PPO
HMO – When you pay a copay and have a Primary Care Doctor and that doctor referrers you to a specialist within your contracted plan. You also need an authorization for medical treatment. In some plans your medication, dental, eye care. Some even cover Health Clubs.
PPO- When you pick your own specialists within your own contracted plan. Pay copays but do not need a referral or authorization.
You may also have and extra plan for example: AARP and also pay for a drug plan.
Part D – Prescription Drug Plan. This you pay for. There are 4 tiers to this plan. It depends on the kind of medication you need.
Note: Overall the HMO Plan is the cheapest way to go but you maybe frustrated with it if you do not know how it works.
There is Straight Medicare where Medicare pays 80% of your bill and you pay the rest.
There is Medi/Medi which is Medicare and Medi-cal combined. Free.
Call Social Security 800-772-1213 and discuss the different plans.
