Cultural diversity and where do I fit in

The Purpose Of Life
By Paul McCann

What makes me who I am in essence is a context of cultures in my own lifestyle. Other areas that could have an impact on me are the workplace, social life, academic pursuits ,spirituality, sporting pursuits, family and relationships .

Taking a closer look at some of those areas in my life I am able to identify many diversities that exist in making me who I am . As an example within each framework there are many positive mechanisms that relate to my culture .

Exploring social life I can see how food , music , education and sport take an important role . There is a diversity that exists between the music I like and the music others like . I have my own tastes with food and sport which is a pattern that helps to develop the friends and relationships that become strong .

Adding to this the challenge of other cultures a new context medium becomes more diverse . .

Initially the adjustment process between my culture and other cultures is confusing and challenging . I need to adjust and adapt to language barriers and behaviours in lifestyle patterns . Furthermore the ability to settle within another culture is driven by how well I am able to fit in to another culture .

What makes me who I am then can be encouraged and enhanced by my ability to connect with others . Looking at this a little more I am able to identify particular areas of growth in myself within the framework of my spirituality and also within the work place . For instance am I able to embrace other belief systems as well as my own and can work well as a team member within the workplace . I can only answer to that myself while the answers others have are diverse and different because every individual would react or act in a manner that can tolerate their own tolerance to cultural diversity .

Some positive resources that assist are now becoming common practice such as culturally safe work practices that assist bridging other ways to seeing the same thing . Life is a diverse path and my ability to walk with others through life can be stressful or restful . I can accept or reject . I can work and talk with others in a friendly or be a racist . The purpose of communication and teamwork .is an essential part of making it work in a positive way . What makes me who I am and what makes other who they are .

There needs to be an understanding and a tolerant attitude about our differences .

In addition that is what makes one group mean what they say while another group would say what they mean . Yes there is a difference but are we able to connect with each other in all our diversity . It is essential to establish some common ground in order to see who we are and why we look at things differently .

The way ahead is to achieve that purpose and build on that common ground a framework for better ways of living together .

If we can accept our differences then everyone can work , study and live together as one . In this environment we can respect, and accept our culture and creed has a place with others and yes we can be who we are in this world is a where we have found the purpose to life on a journey where regardless of skin colour of religious belief we can live and work together as one .

The End
