BLUE ICE is set in present day Kansas City during a Thanksgiving week ice storm. The cast of characters includes tennis players, mobsters, soccer moms and a pop psychologist by the name of Dr. Paul.

Since 2002, Larry Rochelle has published thirteen books. His first novel, DANCE WITH THE PONY, won the 2003 Cincinnati CITY BEAT award for best mystery. His book of poetry, DUST DEVILS, won the 2004 Kansas Nelson Poetry Book Award. Another poetry book, SIREN SORCERY, and his Kansas City mystery, CRACKED CRYSTALS, were 2004 EPPIE Finalists.
In late November 2005, his fourteenth book will be published by Broken Umbrella Press: the Kansas City thriller, BLUE ICE.

Dr. Paul has a daily radio program and he gives advice to stressed-out callers much the same way as do television’s Frazier or Dr. Phil.
One of his frequent radio guests is the popular Kansas City tennis pro, Palmer Morel who gives realistic advice to sports enthusiasts. Morel also reveals he is going to buy the old Ibis Theater on Main Street, renovate it and make it more appealing to families.
But Morel’s dark side intrigues Dr. Paul, and his jealousy toward the blue-eyed, 6’ 3” tennis pro urges him to provoke Morel into making more revealing revelations about his private life.
During the catastrophic ice storm that cripples the city, both Morel and Dr. Paul become entangled in the secrecy of the Kansas City mob. The old demons of the River Quay debacle and the mob’s ties to organized crime throughout the United States elevate the intensity of the conflict.
When the conflict is over, Dr. Paul has difficulty talking through his broken jaw. And Palmer Morel suffers a severe case of corrupt-cop tennis elbow.
