The flooding from the Mississippi River is so reminescent of the flooding in New Orleans where hurricane Katrina breached the levees in 2005. The only difference is they knew it was coming. The people in New Orleans had no idea. . . Check out THROUGH THE STORM!
CHAPTER ONE
What's Goin' On?
(page 8)
"Daddy," Angelica came running into the den. "Water's comin' in through the door in the livin' room!"
I hopped up, stopping at the pantry in the bathroom to retrieve towels. Rainwater was eeping in from the threshold of the door. Quickly, I spun the towels tight and laid them down at the threshold, pressing them down with my foot to stop the water.
"Water's comin' in the bathroom, daddy," Christopher called.
The bathroom, I asked myself. How was it getting into the bathroom? Turning, I was shaken by what I saw. Water was spurting up through the hardwood flooring! Something crashed into the fifteen-light door. Spinning around, all I saw was the dirty water lapping at the lower panes of the door! For an instant, I panicked, tipping around to avoid the spurting water. Looking out from the door, the porch was completely immersed in water, and waves of water were smashing headlong into the front of the house. The people in the stalled cars were getting out of them, climbing to the hoods and roofs, crying out in shock. A dull rumble sounded at the front of the house and something struck the wrought iron handrails. Wave after wave of water was rolling up the avenue, and with each wave, the water inched higher. This wasn't rainwater, I said to myself Car horns and alarms went off outside, giving the air a dark, end-times eeriness.
