Jack Russell Terriers Lizzie and Spunkie, along with their dad Jack and mom Jessie are the stars of this 56 page book told in words and pictures.

Lizzie recounts the adventures the little dogs encounter from arguing over the throwing stick to chasing down critters in the woods near their house and playing in the nearby creek or swimming in the river further away.

The little dogs are full of vim, vinegar and fun. Writer Waldrip’s love for the little dogs shines through each page of his nicely done work ‘Russells in the Leaves’.

The photographs taken by the writer add another dimension to the work. Naughtiness, animation and just plain jollity is evident on the pages of ‘Russells in the Leaves’ especially in the picture series showing Lizzie, her brother and dad arguing over the throwing stick.

Waldrip’s tale told through the eyes of the pup bring a smile as the reader romps along with the little mischief makers. The humdrum daily activities as we all enjoy take on new meaning during the process of viewing life through the thoughts and activities of these small pups.

Writer Waldrip has managed to pull off quite a feat in that he has crafted a highly readable little book ‘Russells in the Leaves’ about the little critters who share his life and has kept from sounding insipid or maudlin in the effort. ‘Russells in the Leaves’ is a book I intend to take to work … and use with one of my reading clients. I am confident the young man will enjoy reading about the little dogs as much I have.

Nice book for when you don’t have a lot of time, or when you just want a warm fuzzy moment.
