Rainy Day Lover is a nice little work filled with enough plot twist, duplicitous characters and machination to whet my appetite for more of this type writing by this author.

Melissa takes a job trying to return a run down apartment complex to its former glory. Handy man Jud Wheeling is far too good looking to be ignored despite Melissa’s best efforts to do so. Before long Melissa finds herself face to face with both Carleton Chase the son of her former employer and with a determined head strong woman from Jud’s past. Melissa does not know whether to be angered, dismayed or heartened at the appearance of either. Jud refuses Addy’s advances, Melissa thwarts Carleton and life continues much as it had with too little money and too much to do before returning the Lovin Arms Apartments to presentable condition. Melissa meets Jud’s parents and is astonished to realize he has not been entirely forthright with her. Carleton resurfaces to show himself the despicable rounder he is before Jud and Melissa at last realize the apartment complex has come to mean more to either of them than just a job. Writer Liter presents a very different side of his talent in this offering to the one found in his Nick Bancroft mystery series. I’ll be honest, I prefer Nick only because I prefer mystery per se to romantic thriller. The reader is drawn into the narrative from the outset, and is held fast to the ending lines in this appealing little chronicle. Writer Liter’s descriptive writing sets vivid mental imagery for the run down apartment complex where Melissa goes to begin her life after the near assault she endured. Liter’s crisp writing sets the stage for the taut interaction between Jud and Melissa. I particularly enjoyed the tension filled dialogue between the pair. At times Melissa’s contumacious snappishness was almost overwrought, however keeping in mind the situation she had just escaped added realistic understanding for her excitable behavior. I did find the character Addy disappeared a little too quickly to my mind given the set up for her pursuit of Jud. The Carleton Chase character was presented with just the right amount of conniving and time to show him to be a very unlikeable cad. Knew you were talented Bob after reviewing several in the Nick Bancroft series, Rainy Day Lover gives the reader another venue to relish your work. Excellent book for a lazy afternoon filled with sunshine, music and a good book to luxuriate in.
