Reviewed first for Word Weaving Astrid Cooper offers a futuristic science fiction tale filled with captivating characters and situations. Liandra is one convincing character.

An adversary lies shrouded far in the freezing deepness of space. This foe waits to obliterate Caledonian Chieftain Connal MacArran. In his effort to protect his world MacArran is propelled into an affiliation with Liandra Tavor a counselor with the League of Worlds. Connal is captivated even while he is disgusted by the legendary sensuality the alien sorceress is said to personify. The green haired Asarian dreamweaver has never accomplished anything to equate the consciousness she realizes as she dreamshares with Connal on her crystal bed. In Crystal Dreams writer Cooper presents a futuristic science fiction type tale occupied with a profusion of captivating characters and situations. Nineteenth century Scot-English associations are contemporary in this well-designed world. The two predominate planets are presented in full by writer Cooper. This is not the customary science fiction offering. The love evolves against a persuasive framework of horrifying malignancy and other world aspects. As presented in Crystal Dreams Liandra is a convincing character filled with sufficient angst to keep her engaging. MacArran and his hardheaded sentiments become a bit ennui after a time. Even with my Scottish ancestry there were moments that I found myself wanting to `smack him up aside the head' as he continues to oppose Liandra despite awareness that she is not `tainting' his world. Crystal Dreams is a well written page turner which draws readers right into the account from the opening page and carries them on a roller coaster ride of agitation through the tale and on down to the final paragraph. A nice book for a lazy summer's reading in the hammock. Not for everyone. Those who enjoy romance and/or futuristic science fiction will enjoy the tale.
