Writer Marilyn Meredith pulls the reader right into the narrative

Tempe Crabtree arrives just in time to see Nick Two John plunge a Buck knife into the tire of a loaded log truck. Tempe likes her job as resident deputy of Bear Creek. One big drawback is having to arrest people she had known almost her whole life. When Nick offers Tempe the promise of information he says she needs to know about Bear Creek in exchange for turning him loose she refuses. A few days later Tempe and her fiancée are enjoying Dinner at Bear Creek Inn following a stroll along the nature trail Nick has created beyond the Inn. It was during their walk that Tempe discovered the trail filled with a wide assortment of plants that have both beneficial and deadly properties. When Inn owner Andre Donato and one of the Inn staff are poisoned the tension begins to build. Donato dies, the other victim does not. No one is too surprised when Nick Two John is arrested for the crime. Tempe realizes things are not quite as they seem and when the detectives refuse to look past Nick continues her investigation until she is certain she has found the true murderer. Writer Meredith pulls the reader right into the narrative from the opening lines in Deadly Trail when Two John slashes the tires on the log truck and continues to build interest right down to the last paragraph when we find Tempe and her Pastor sweetheart will soon be married. Deadly Trail is a hard hitting work fleshed out with nicely developed characters each of whom have their own thoughts, angst and concerns driving them. Widowed Tempe is raising her sixteen year old son alone along with juggling her job and growing affection for Hutch. Tempe’s less than perfect behavior when dealing with the stress is something we all can understand. Filled with intrigue right from the outset as Nick explains each of the deadly cultivars growing along the Nature Trail. Tempe soon learns that one after another of the staff and owners of the Inn are involved in romantic entanglements. Jealousy, lies, deceit all are present. The reader is carried along on a wild ride of excitement until the killer is discovered.
