An interpretive look at the real meaning of Easter Sunday
I would imagine that Easter is special to us all who happen to be Christian, and understand the true meaning of this day. Too be honest, I like to refer to it as Resurrection Day, which I feel is aptly named and captures what it is suppose to convey. This leads me to the gist of this short essay. Why do people still hang on to a tradition that is more pagan than Godly? Why is it too, that out of 365 days that one can worship, they pick THIS day to malign? It reminds me of how Christmas' true meaning is also misrepresented, but that's another story altogether! Albeit, spending money to buy new outfits to wear on this one-time occurrence can be an expense one can ill-afford if a soul is lost attending church for the wrong reasons, or even celebrating this day without understanding what it means. It's like taking God for granted. My point is moot for those who continue to allow a bunny rabbit and eggs to define their understanding (or lack thereof) of Easter. If you know your history you'd know that there have always been alternate explanations for the timing of the various events associated with his execution and resurrection, but the one that has always been taught to me was where Jesus died on Wednesday afternoon, and was resurrected on Saturday evening. The empty tomb was discovered on Sunday morning, many hours after Jesus had left. All you'd have to do confirm this is to read your Bible, for it's plain without supposition what the truth is. It hasn't always been my belief of what Easter truly meant because I too, fell victim to the Easter bunny ruse and Easter egg hunts.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is one of the fundamental principles and beliefs of Christianity and a well-documented historical fact...and I found out about it at a much later time in my life. Back then, I didn't know better, but when I got a true r understanding I did away with those childish things, and today I don't allow my kids or grandkids to celebrate it any other way than what it truly should represent. I celebrate it because I believe Jesus died for our sin on the Cross (on Good Friday), was buried on the same day and rose from death on Sunday. This is NOT debatable! Only Jesus can give eternal life, because He overcame death. ...But pagan worship took it and made a festive affair introducing an iconic non-interpretive version that has our communities Black and white, bowing to tradition in lieu of it's original spiritual meaning. What does the Easter bunny and eggs have to do with anything? Nothing. If one truly believes in God, eschewing anything other than what it was intended to be should be done away with. Parents specifically should be hammering this point home, in the homes, and place the responsibility on real parental guidance --educating them to not do as they say, but as they DO!
