How are you living? This is an essay allowing why God's return is eminent
I’ve often wondered how long will it take for the Lord to throw up his hands and start the world anew? Sodom and Gomorrah, notwithstanding gave Him much more than pause in determining that He’d had enough! What does it say then, for us living so precariously to the edge ignoring sound spiritual judgment that can spell the difference between salvation and ruination? All it takes is to research for you analogies that point to relative issues for positive thought. I propose that we indeed are sinners in the hands of a God that is non to happy about how we (not) living our lives. Albeit, the title of this essay is not my own. I confess that it was borrowed to illustrate points I would like to posit to the world we are living in, and how we are destined for providential change from one bold New England preacher who dared to chastise his peers and their congregations for not living according to ‘thus sayeth the Lord’ principles.
Fire and brimstone are necessary to get any point across real or imaged for all intended purposes, and Jonathan Edwards during the mid 1700’s was no exception and got their attention. To paraphrase an essential portion of his speech proved to be poignant in my opinion. In it, his diatribe alluded to the fact that God ultimately will have the last word, and that they should cease and desist from all sin. “Your evil ways will be the lead that will sink you toward the depths of hell” he intoned. They were no idle words which were promptly dismissed and he ridiculed. Of course, this railing against status quo did nothing to endear him as it plaintively reminded me of two stalwart believers in God – Stephen and Jeremiah. Both were martyrs stoned to death by zealots unwittingly and unwilling to adhere to the Word of God. Negative commentary and decadent sin is at crossroads today as it was then, and is fraught with impending doom.
Yet, amid all of this, we continue to eschew doing what is right allowing the forces of evil to direct our steps. We tend to pray (if at all) for the wrong things, continually backsliding while giving excuses for non-compliance. I’ve asked myself, who are the true prophets among us willing to impart sound Biblical reasoning and ecclesiastical worth? I’m equally overjoyed and dismayed of preachers and imposters adorning pulpits pleading their cases, and in the light of the latter, lining their pockets in neo-entrepreneurial aplomb. In the book of Jeremiah 7:9 there’s an excellent illustration that I will share with you concerning a pet peeve that we can all learn from where he imagined how angry God must have felt looking down on His creation. Says Jeremiah: “how long will you plunder, kill, lie, cheat, worship other Gods before me, and then attend my church expecting to be delivered?” Lest we forget our places and why we are here in the first place, God is still in control. Hark back to the ancient Israelites for a clearer picture. They were audacious and very callous, where blasphemy was the order of the day amid immorality. Their audacity was to defy Him at all costs despite the fact that He rescued them time after time. Are we any different today? The clincher proved to be a failing test of God’s patience.
In summation, we can’t continue to take Him for granted, nor can we afford to assume that asking God for forgiveness is the cure-all to warrant second chances without repentances. I surmise t hat God is already tired of us! Sinners in the hands of an angry God are not good. We need to come full circle and make elections and callings surest for salvation to be fully recognized. We need to pull our families together, take back our communities, and let the church be the true Kingdom we build along with dedicated lives to Christ. What will YOUR option be? In His hands be protected by making Him happy with wise choices for immediate change!
