Cats...
They seem to be the most popular animal on the internet.
And for good reason. Cats can reflect some of the traits we see in ourselves. Which make them fun to watch. And funny.
In the pecking order of nature, cats like to pounce on birds. Dogs like to chase cats. The three natural enemies. Or frenemies.
And when cats and dogs and birds mix it up, hilarity can ensue. Stuff cartoons are made of. Like Looney Tunes', Spike, Sylvester, and Tweety.
Reality follows art such as in scene below, the kitty cats watching the birdies. Perhaps dreaming about their next dinner?
Then enter the dog. The cats' foil.
And that dog sure made those cats spring! On what appears to be a nice spring day.
Speaking of spring...
On a more philosophical note. It's a time of rebirth. Renewal. Optimism. An awakening after the slumber of winter.
And speaking of cats...
One existential cat, Henri le Chat Noir, laments the "Blight of Spring:"
The days will stop getting longer
This season will soon come to pass

About a month ago, I looked out to see a Peregrine falcon eating what appeared to be, a larger bird, maybe a dove. All of a sudden from the cedar fence, a cat landed on the Peregrine's tail. Startled, it flew off and the cat proceeded to chew on whatever the falcon had caught. While the Peregrine sat on the fence and watched. Fifteen minutes later, the cat was gone and the Peregrine flew back down and finished off what was left.
About two weeks ago, the only squirrel in the neighborhood was picking up left over seeds from our birdfeeder above when a cat jumped out of the bushes and landed on its tail. The squirrel's response was a 4 foot jump landing at the base of the cedar fence and then flying up it to the top. The cat's response was a bounding run slamming into the fence, already 3 feet behind the squirrel. Cats are good hunters, but they miss most of the time.
Wish I could've gotten videos of those two incidents. But I can't hold a camera.
