Such distinctions can be valuable for writers when crafting their characters who grew up in the generation that defined them.

Adults have lamented about the sorry state of the youth throughout history:
The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers.
This quote has been attributed to Socrates in the 4th century B.C.
But it has been suggested it really was "a summary of general complaints about the youth by the ancient Greeks, as written in a 1907 dissertation by a student, Kenneth John Freeman."
Thank you for this rapid-fire rendition of the generations. I had been thinking a lot about how the current generation (Alpha) would deal with my sci-fi novel set in 2032. But I made the circumstances hard enough, that much of the world this new generation knows is gone and must start over with a very determined and positive viewpoint. Chaos is not an option.
So I have molded my characters into responsible, energetic pioneers with lots of resources for the taking, but a time and place where material things pale against creating survival for the long run and repopulation.
