I ordered an American Express card for my trip around the world, but it didn't arrive in time. I did get lots of small American Express checks. But thinking ahead, I got one large cashier's check from the Chase Manhattan Bank to buy my ticket home from Bangkok. Everywhere I went, even small shops and market stalls, my American Express checks were as good as gold. However, we had to drive in heavy traffic halfway across Bangkok to a Chase Manhattan Bank and then had to forfeit a 6% cashing fee. At least US dollars were good almost everywhere.
And Wyoming. A place I've passed through several times and wish I had more time to stay a little longer. Almost always with just my Standard Oil Card (Amoco) and less than 100 bucks in my pocket. But adding to the great places you mentioned, are Custer State Park, Cody (great museum to Buffalo Bill), Little America, Cheyenne Days, the Big Horn Mountains, and Shell Canyon. Not to mention more antelope that you can shake a stick at.
