All I can say is, what if the colonies in the 1770's had passed local laws virtually outlawing gun ownership and all the good colonists obeyed the new law, handed in vitually all but a few of their guns. Or if good ole government Mother England had enacted the same strict gun laws or face stiff penalties and so all the colonists obeyed left with bow & arrows and pitchforks only, either way we would not be sitting here debating it today, all of our history would have been changed and may not have happended.

Another of very well orchestrated and delivered arguments that gun ownership is not a problem. I've seen many of these well-done pieces lately, propaganda designed to convince people that our United States obsession with guns is okay and normal.

I agree with the premise that it's the people and not the guns that are the problem. However, I disagree with heavy emphasis in this exposé that it's the murder rate that everyone should be concerned with. Something I noticed in the presentation is that the countries with very high murder rates are countries that have very unstable governments and therefore have, poor control over laws which protect people from violent crime. If we take Honduras, number one in murder rate, we are talking about a country in Central America with a very weak government and almost at the point of anarchy, located directly in the middle of the path that narcotics move to United States from South America and refugees from other countries follow through on the way to the US border. While there is discontent in the United States, we are far from the lawlessness of the countries in the top of that murder list. Lawlessness has little to do with guns. MS 13 that operates in Honduras among other countries, does all of its killing primarily with knives in a very brutal way.

Where Plano Texas is, at the bottom of the list, I noticed a number of European countries starting with Switzerland, that the same people who tout the US ability to save the world, militarily, blame as weak countries in the European Union, with poor economies and inability to defend themselves. Still, they are very vibrant, healthy places to live, with very little crime and very low murder rates… Much lower than the United States.

Also, this analysis only talks about murder rate. It doesn't have the data on gun accidents, suicides, and gun violence related to personal and family disputes that does not result in murder. In fact, much of this data is unavailable, partly because it is suppressed by the NRA and laws that were enacted by folks that like to create these pleasant scenarios.

So, what we have is an analysis comparing apples to oranges instead of apples to apples. The fact that so many buy analyses like this is a direct result of our inability to understand ourselves, our education and our strong beliefs in myths rather than facts even when they stare us in the face.

I agree that it is people that are causing the perceived problem. But, with a portion of every society mentally ill, can we have guns like pistols that only have a use for shooting people, and assault weapons, only useful for military purposes or mass shootings by crazed people, stockpiled in every home with some fear that something apocalyptic will be coming along? Hoping that these guns will be locked up and away from that video game playing teenager with pathological dreams of glory in the house?

It's time that we consider guns deadly devices like automobiles and properly regulate their use and availability to citizens for our own safety.
