Without giving too much of the of the Surkling story away, here is a couple of entries from the Dictionary that feature in the Trilogy. The dictionary is a work in progress but a very necessary document for the story. The Surkling Trilogy is also underpinned by a long history that goes before and after the Surkling Trilogy. And standing before all-else are the Legends in the Nakorah.
Efat: The Western Star. One of the four Compass stars marking the cardinal directions. The eight pointed star of the West reaches its highest on the 146th day of summer. None of these stars ever set; but they do rise and fall against the horizons. They were used for navigation; but in fact, only the Western Star of Efat; and the Northern Star of Sidarthur, is truly aligned. Nevertheless, they were used by Voyagers as points for navigation; and so mariners called them the Navigation Stars; and developed myths and legends about how the seas were connected to them; and how wind-ships might sail there. They have inspired myth, legend, and the Great Jewels; that were set into the Four War Crowns of Muggy. And the Four War Crowns themselves have been named after them. Sidarthur, Efat, Revana and Strato, and are made of the Great Jewels, Corella, Niscent, Sur, Barindella, Andwalliun, Quirilliam, Bindler and others; set into or mounted on the Four War Crowns to be the colours of those stars.
Golloribs: The operators of the so-called machines of war at the Battle of Paradia on the Kassavala. They seem to have been absent from the First Battle of Machines and may have been a newly trained wilderling unit. They were accompanied by Rawfs and they appeared up and down the valley. There were not less than ten thousand of them all told!
